TapeBoy Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 9, 2026

TapeBoy respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app accesses and how it is used.

Music Service Access

With your permission, TapeBoy may access information about your currently playing music from Apple Music (via Apple's MusicKit framework) or Spotify (via the Spotify iOS SDK), including:

TapeBoy only accesses this information after you connect a music service and grant permission.

How Information Is Used

The information is used solely to provide the app's functionality, such as displaying your currently playing music and related artwork.

TapeBoy does not upload your music library, listening history, or playback information to any server operated by the developer.

Personal Information

TapeBoy does not collect personally identifiable information, and does not ask you to create an account or provide your name, email, or contact details.

TapeBoy does not sell your personal information.

Analytics

TapeBoy uses TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service, to understand how the app's features are used so we can improve it. When the app is sent to the background, TapeBoy sends an anonymous snapshot of your current appearance settings, such as:

To distinguish one installation from another, TapeBoy generates a random identifier that is stored on your device. This identifier is not linked to your identity, your Apple ID, or your music account, and TelemetryDeck hashes it before it is transmitted.

This analytics data does not include the songs, artists, or listening history you play. It is never used for advertising, is not combined with data from other apps or companies to track you, and is not sold. TelemetryDeck processes data in the European Union in accordance with the GDPR. You can turn analytics off at any time in the app under Settings → Privacy; this stops any further data from being collected from your device.

Data Storage

Your app settings and preferences are stored locally on your device and are shared with the TapeBoy widget through a private app group. Anonymous analytics events are sent to TelemetryDeck as described above.

If you connect Spotify, an access token from Spotify is stored locally on your device so the app can reconnect without asking you to sign in every time. This token stays on your device and is not shared with the developer.

In-App Purchases

TapeBoy offers optional in-app purchases, which are processed by Apple through the App Store. TapeBoy does not receive or store your payment details. Please refer to Apple's Privacy Policy for how Apple handles purchase information.
